The government of Bangladesh has reaffirmed its strong commitment to preventing violent extremism in the country. However, the constantly evolving, multi-faceted nature of contemporary violent extremism underlines the need for increased engagement, coordination, and collaboration across all levels of society to address its root causes and prevent its growth. In Bangladesh, the countering and preventing violent extremism (C/PVE) interventions through state and non-state actors are being implemented for the last couple of years in addressing different drivers of violent extremism (VE). But there is not any platform for sharing the knowledge among the implementers and the leading actors; resulting in creating lack of common and evidence-based understanding about the effectiveness of the interventions. In this context, many resources are not being utilized in the most effective means. According to Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTCU) Unit, the most of state and non-state actors do not have evidence- based knowledge to fight extremist views, ideas and narratives. Additionally, they are not sufficiently equipped to mobilize their fellow people/community against radicalization/VE to contribute to the national C/PVE efforts. The US State Dept. Country Report on Terrorism (2017) shows that Bangladesh’s lack of a publicly available strategy to counter violent extremism hindered sustained engagement with the United States and the international community.

Generate a shared understanding of different stakeholders on C/PVE in perspective of Bangladesh

  • PVE Knowledge will be shared and cross fertilized to demonstrate the bestpractice targeting prevention of violent extremism in Bangladesh
  • Enable key influential with evidence-based knowledge and tools on PVE tocontribute national CVE efforts in Bangladesh
